    Does it matter if the compress with the two flasks lay sideways or does it have to stand up ?

    • @ChristopherStokes-Sheffield
      @ChristopherStokes-Sheffield 2 года назад

      Hi - No - my guess for this being done 'right way up' is often as the presses work by pressing vertically (down onto the bench) to tighten, but after that orientation is not important. It potentially is earlier in the process, such as when the plaster is unset, as it allows some control of air bubbles etc, but by the stage that you have the flask in the clamps for curing it is more about what is easiest to handle.

      Hi Shirley - the models are adaptations of some really old large scale teeth to show some features more clearly (fissures, some cusps etc). I have put a link to a 3D printable file of a scan of the set of teeth in the comments.

      It's a teaching exercise for students that have not used dental wax before. It explores shaping the wax with a cold knife, melting it to weld the seams, and smoothing it to finish the edges. As it is a geometric shape it is easy to visualise what it should look like too (A good one has smooth straight edges and clean faces). Students then move on from this exercise to create special tray spacers, registration rims, and denture wax-ups.
